Manchester United receive transfer ‘green light’: should they seal the deal?

Image for Manchester United receive transfer ‘green light’: should they seal the deal?

DiMariaManchester United fans may be relieved to see Louis Van Gaal take charge at Old Trafford, but more than anything, they’ll want to see a few more recruits join the club before the transfer window slams shut.

Whilst Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw will provide Manchester United with some good squad depth, they need two-or-three more options if they’re to compete at the top of the Premier League table next season. More precisely, they need to attract a few more world-class players to Old Trafford.

This brings me to The Red Devils’ rumoured interest in Real Madrid’s star winger/assist-maker, Angel Di Maria. With Manchester United short of options down the flanks, Di Maria could prove to be the perfect signing this summer.

It’s frustrating watching Manchester United rely on players like Ashley Young and Nani. Even Antonio Valencia has started to disappoint.

Angel Di Maria, on the other hand, keeps going from strength-to-strength. Last season he made 52 appearances for Real Madrid, found the back of the net 11 times and made 26 assists. He’s clearly very effective (and unselfish) in the final third. It’s easy to see why Manchester United are interested.

Some thought that the arrival of Gareth Bale at the Bernabeu would limit Di Maria’s game time. That didn’t prove to be the case in the end, but new Madrid signings James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos are likely to limit his game-time. I wouldn’t be surprised if he were willing to leave the club in search of regular football.

The Mirror claims that Manchester United have been given a ‘green light’ to sign Di Maria from Real Madrid. They also suggest that they’re duking it out with Paris Saint-German for his signature. Neither club is short of cash, so it should be interesting to watch this one play out.

If The Red Devils win this particular transfer battle, they’ll be in a considerably stronger position next year.

What’s your take? Is Angel Di Maria the perfect pick for Manchester United? Can they compete with cash-rich PSG for his signature?

I am completely baffled as to why a player, not deemed good enough for Madrid, is good enough for United. I am also baffled as to why United would want second best. 11 goals and 26 assists is a very poor return in a league of three, sometimes four strong teams.
Di Maria is not a world class player, far from it. He needs five very good chances to score one goal. He runs around aimlessly quite a lot. He falls over quite a lot.
Stop putting this guy on a pedestal, you’ve even got Madrid convinced he’s worth a lot of money. I’ll let you into a secret, if he was worth all that money Madrid wouldn’t be selling him.
Either let him go to PSG or stay in Madrid. Please, please do not get him at Old Trafford.
