CuadradoManchester United may have won their first major pre-season game of the summer 7-0, but it’s clear that there’s still work to be done with their squad. The competition they face in the Premier League is likely to be a lot tougher.

Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw have both been brought in already, but further recruits may be necessary if Manchester United are to start climbing back up the Premier League table. If The Red Devils want to challenge for the title next season, they’re going to need to put their money where their mouth is.

Luckily, they go have plenty of cash to spend. They’re able to go head-to-head with pretty much any club in the world and despite their failings over the last 12 months, they should still be able to attract top talent.

This brings me to The Red Devil’s proposed interest in Fiorentina ace, Juan Cuadrado. The Mirror recently published an article suggesting that Bayern Munich had pulled out of the race to sign the Colombian, after being ‘put-off’ by his mammoth £30m transfer fee.

Manchester United on the other hand, haven’t balked at his price-tag and are thus in pole position to wrap up a deal.

The 26-year-old certainly looks like a good player. He’s quick, he’s technically gifted and he creates a decent amount of goals (he scored one and assisted four at this year’s World Cup). In 68 appearances for Fiorentina, he’s also scored 16 goals, so he’s clearly a very effective player. I’m sure he’d add some spark to United’s forward line-up.

Let’s not forget, United are currently relying on players like Nani, Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young down the flanks. I’d argue that they need a player like Juan Cuadrado to come in and slap them out of their slumber.

£30m is a lot of money, but in this case, it could prove to be an excellent investment.

What’s your take? Is Juan Cuadrado the right choice for Manchester United? Should The Red Devils spend big on the wing-wizard?
