Marco ReusSelling Luis Suarez may seem to be a significant step backwards for The Reds, but the truth is that it has put Liverpool in a completely different ball park financially. They’re now able to compete in the transfer market in a way they haven’t been able to for quite some time.

Brendan Rodgers is now in a position to go toe-to-toe with the European elite and come out on top. If he can get his team in a similar position by the end of the summer transfer window, Luis Suarez simply won’t be missed.

Unfortunately, that’s a pretty big ‘if’. It relies on Brendan Rodgers making the right choices and bringing in the right players. It relies on him spending big and showing some ambition.

According to The Mirror, that’s exactly what he plans to do. They suggest that Brendan Rodgers will spend as much as £150m this summer. That’s a staggering amount of cash. It just so happens to be double the amount that The Reds received in return for Luis Suarez. If spending that much cash isn’t a sign of ambition, I don’t know what is.

The source also suggests that Rodgers is considering spending £30m on one of these three players: Arturo Vidal, Paul Pogba and Marco Reus. It must be an exciting time to be a Liverpool fan.

I’m not sure that any of these three players are available for £30m, but they’re all excellent targets. In particular, I’d love to see The Reds make a concerted effort to sign Borussia Dortmund’s wing-wizard, Marco Reus.

Of the three players listed, Reus is the only footballer who’s in Luis Suarez’s ball-park, ability wise. The 25-year-old carries serious threat down the wings with his pace, technique and goal-scoring tendencies.

Since moving to Borussia Dortmund two seasons ago, Reus has scored 42 goals in 90 games. If he can carry this form over to the Premier League, The Reds could well be on to a winner.

This deal is still some way off coming to fruition, but it’s exciting to contemplate nonetheless. If Brendan Rodgers can pull this off, Liverpool really will be in the big leagues.

What’s your take? Is Marco Reus the perfect choice for The Reds?
