Can Manchester United wrap up a £45m deal for this ‘unhappy’ La Liga ace?

di mariaAfter every pre-season game, Louis Van Gaal has been offering an honest, pointed critique of his team’s performance. From his comments thus far, it’s clear that he feels that his side lacks quality in some areas and that it’s not particularly balanced.

But if this is the case, why hasn’t he started spending? Surely it’s time for Manchester United to add another couple of players to their ranks?

Whilst Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera are astute additions for Manchester United, they’ll need more if they’re to be truly competitive. If they want to start competing for the Premier League title, they’re going to need to spend big.

According to The Metro, that’s exactly what Louis Van Gaal intends to do. The source suggests that The Red Devils are preparing a £45m bid for Real Madrid wing wizard, Angel Di Maria. Such a bid would break the club’s current spending record and could prove essential to steadying the Manchester United ship.

The source also suggests that Di Maria is ‘unhappy’ with his current situation at the Bernabeu and that he ‘wants to leave’. I can’t blame him. Bringing in Gareth Bale last summer threatened his game time. Now that both James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos have been brought in, it’s difficult to see where Di Maria fits into this Real Madrid side.

He looks like a player who needs an escape route. The Red Devils can provide him with this, if they’re willing to put their money where their mouth is.

In return, they’ll be getting an excellent player, who’s highly effective in the final third. Last season he made 52 appearances for Madrid, scoring 11 goals and making 26 assists. He’d represent a significant step-up on the likes of Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young and Shinji Kagawa.

He’s not a cheap option, but he’s one of the best available on the market. Manchester United would be foolish to let this opportunity pass them by.

What’s your take? Are Manchester United finally in a position to wrap up a deal for Angel Di Maria?
