OspinaIn signing Alexis Sanchez, The Gunners have probably wrapped up their most exciting deal of the summer. Whilst there’s a chance that Arsene Wenger will surprise the footballing world by bringing in another big money summer signing, I wouldn’t hold your breath. Just be happy that Alexis Sanchez is going to get a pre-season at The Emirates!

Some of Arsenal’s other signings are going to look a little disappointing by comparison, but Arsene Wenger is a smart cookie. Every one brought in is going to serve a purpose and will probably stamp their mark on the Premier League during their stay with The Gunners.

This brings me to Arsenal’s need for a back-up goalkeeper. Whilst it’s not a particularly glamorous position, somebody has to fill it. Now that Lukasz Fabianski has made for The Emirates’ exit door (he’s off to Swansea City), somebody will need to fill his space in the squad.

Arsenal have been linked to a number of different options this summer, but the name that seems to have popped up the most is ‘David Ospina’, Colombia’s World Cup shot-stopper.

It’s difficult to know if there’s any truth to these rumours or if the papers are just looking to link The Gunners to a player who has some name recognition. Either way, I can’t help but feel that he’d be an excellent addition to Arsenal’s squad.

Ospina was one of the goalkeepers of the World Cup this summer. He’s a remarkable character, he’s excellent in the air and he commands his area well.

Better still, Ospina is thought t be available at a bargain price. According to The Mirror, his club, Ligue 1 side Nice, are willing to part with him for just £3m. Considering how much his reputation has grown in recent times, that looks like a really good deal for The Gunners.

Arsene Wenger is known for bringing players in on the cheap and transforming them into superstars. He could be given the opportunity to do exactly that once more, if he were to bring David Ospina to The Emirates.

What’s your take? Who should Arsenal bring in as their second choice goalkeeper?
