Would this Arsenal target be the perfect replacement for Bacary Sagna?

Kieran TrippierWith Bacary Sagna’s exit from Arsenal seemingly imminent, Arsene Wenger is hopefully already drawing up a list of potential replacements. Carl Jenkinson is a fine young talent, but I’m not sure he’s ready to shoulder the burden of being Arsenal’s number one right-back. Somebody else needs to be brought in to fill this role.

This brings me to The Mirror‘s claim that Arsenal are ‘weighing up a move’ for Burnley’s right-back, Kieran Trippier. Should this provide Arsenal fans with a reason to be cheerful?

Kieran Trippier may still be young (he’s 23-years-old), but he’s actually got a decent pedigree. He joined Manchester City’s Academy at just nine-years-old and progressed through the ranks before signing professional terms with the club in 2008. He captained the side that won the FA Youth Cup that season.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much room in City’s squad, despite Trippier’s obvious talent, passion and ability. That’s why he embarked on a series of loan moves to Barnsley and Burnley, before eventually making a permanent move in January 2012. He was named the Claret’s Player of the Year that season and was named in the PFA Championship team of the season the next year.

As you can, see the man has already achieved a lot. With caps for the England U18s, U19s, U20s and U21s, it wouldn’t surprise me if he were to crack the England first team one day. But if he’s to achieve this, he’ll probably need to move up to the Premier League, where he’ll be closer to the public’s watchful eye.

There’s no word as to how much he might cost, but being a Championship side with (relatively) limited resources, The Clarets may well be willing to cash in. What’s more, I’m sure that the player would himself would fancy another opportunity to make it at a so-called ‘big-club’, having spent some time at Manchester City.

He has limited Premier League experience, so Arsene Wenger may consider him a bit of a gamble, but I can’t help but feel that this one could pay off big time. Let’s see if The Professor opts to roll the dice.

What’s your take? Should The Gunners move in for Kieran Trippier?
