Santiago AriasA few days ago Manchester United full-back, Patrice Evra, scored one of the goals of his career to put his club ahead against Bayern Munich in the second leg of their Champions League clash. Unfortunately, the Bavarian based side were able to overcome the deficit and dump The Red Devils out of Europe.

As a result, Evra’s net-busting effort could be his last memorable action as a Manchester United player. There’s a good chance he’ll leave the club this summer and other full-backs like Rafael and Alexander Buttner may follow him. In other words, United could well end up pretty short of options in this area of the pitch.

So let’s hope that David Moyes is already hashing out a plan to prevent this from happening. According to The Sun, he’s currently drawing up a list of potential transfer targets. One of the players on this list is Santiago Arias, who’s currently valued at around £6m.

With David Moyes thought to have access to a massive transfer war-chest this summer, Arias is certainly an affordable option for The Red Devils. But would he be a good one?

Arias is just 22-years-old, but he’s already earned the nickname, ‘The Rock’. This isn’t due to any resemenblence he has to the popular wrestler/movie star. It’s more because he’s defensively sound, tracks players well, provides cover whenever possible and isn’t afraid to leap into tackles. He’s a rock.

He only moved to his current club, PSG, a year ago, but he’s already managed to make an impact. He’s made 22 appearances for the Dutch side and even scored the opening goal in a 3-2 win against FC Twente earlier in the season.

Certain aspects of his game are still developing, but he’s certainly a player with plenty of promise. Manchester United fans may want their club to hold out for a more experienced individual, but I’m sure that Arias would do a good job, if he’s called upon.

And given his £6m price-tag, he’d hardly be an expensive gamble, would he?

What’s your take? Should The Red Devils swoop for Santiago Arias?
