Lars BenderWith Arsenal focusing on securing a top four finish and FA Cup victory (which one would be more important for the club?), it’s hard to think as far ahead as the summer transfer market.

But with the club’s weaknesses laid bare for all to see this season, it’s important that Arsene Wenger acts swiftly when the summer transfer window re-opens. Injuries have ravaged this Arsenal side and without their key players, the Gunners just aren’t effective enough.

It’s been striking just how much Arsenal have missed Aaron Ramsey. The Welsh midfielder only recently made his return, after suffering a thigh injury on boxing day against West Ham. His impact has already been felt across the squad and you can see that the Gunners possess a lot more threat moving forward when he’s on the ball.

Arsene Wenger’s main priority this summer will be signing another striker to compete with Olivier Giroud, but I hope he also looks at fleshing out his squad. If he has more quality options in every area, he’ll be able to cope significantly better with any injury crises that rear their ugly head.

That’s why I was interested to see The Mirror claim that Arsenal are still in the market for this Bundesliga duo: Julian Draxler and Lars Bender. This is exciting news for a number of reasons. These would be more than squad players. Draxler would push the likes of Lukas Podolski and Tomas Rosicky for a squad place. Bender would surely be able to squeeze Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini out of the first team.

Arsenal would have greater levels of competition throughout their squad and would be better able to cope with next season’s demands. The Gunners could finally be in a position to compete on multiple fronts (this is where they’ve fallen down this season).

The Gunners have been linked to both players multiple times over the last 12 months. The links to Julian Draxler are particularly strong. I just hope it hasn’t all been hot air. If the Gunners can close these deals, they’re sure to come back a lot stronger next year.

What’s your take? Should Arsenal really sign two more midfielders? Would this Bundesliga duo be a good choice?

Bender would be a good signing

I can think of eight reasons why we won’t get these players:

    Barcelona
    Real Madrid
    Bayern Munich
    PSG
    Monaco
    Chelsea
    Man City
    Man Utd

    Come on – get real.

A couple of bargain bucket buys from the French league is all Arsenal will get – we just cannot compete with this…

I hope you don’t go and watch Arsenal because your negativity poors out of you. This season is the first season Arsenal can realy spend 30M + on a player, instead of spending 15M on OK players. Instead of writing negative ignorant shit, why don’t you wait and see if Wenger adds to the likes of Ozil next season, with a couple of 25M/30M+ players.
