Marco ReusLast weekend Borussia Dortmund recorded a remarkable 3-0 win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena. The architect of this victory was the Bundesliga side’s talented young winger, Marco Reus who scored one and set up another.

In truth, however, Marco Reus has been in excellent form all season long. He’s played 38 times for Dortmund and has somehow managed to find the back of the net 21 times. That’s the kind of return that most strikers would kill for.

Reus typically plays as an attacking midfielder, or a winger, but he loves to cut in or make runs in behind so he can apply a finish. Even in a season where Bayern Munich have swept aside all comers with seeming ease, Reus has stood out as one of the Bundesliga’s best.

All this and he’s only 24-years-old. It’s easy to see why other club’s may be interested in signing him, but his current club won’t want to let him go on the cheap. If he leaves Dortmund in the summer, he’ll do so as a result of an absolutely massive deal.

This brings me to The Metro‘s claim that Manchester United have made Marco Reus their ‘top transfer target’ of the summer. That’s exciting news, right?

David Moyes has a lot of work to do this summer. His current squad lacks a bit of cutting edge. His wingers don’t seem to be as inspired or effective as they used to be. I certainly hope that Moyes has made signing a new winger a key priority for when the transfer window re-opens. What’s more, I hope that Marco Reus is on his wish-list.

The aforementioned source suggests that any deal for Reus would cost in excess of £35m. That’s a lot of money, but I still think it undervalues the player. If Gareth Bale was worth over £80m, then surely Reus is worth at least half that?

Either way, Manchester United need to test the waters with a bid. Bringing Reus to Old Trafford could completely turn around the club’s fortunes.

What’s your take? Should Marco Reus be Manchester United’s number one transfer target?
