Should Arsenal trigger Loic Remy’s release clause?

Loic RemyQPR star Loic Remy has been making real waves on loan at Newcastle United this season. He’s been in fine form and has started to attract attention from a host of other clubs. According to The Metro, Arsenal are one of those clubs. The source also carries quotes from Harry Redknapp, who commented on the Frenchman’s future:

“Remy wants to play Champions League football next season, so they tell me. The chances of us keeping him are not great if he’s got a buy-out clause.”

Typical of Harry to be so blunt, isn’t it? He’s more than aware of QPR’s current situation. Whilst the club isn’t exactly short of cash, they’re not really in a position where they can keep hold of their best players.

Yes, The Rs look dead set for a play-off position this season, but the best they can hope for next season is another relegation battle in the Premier League. Surely a player like Loic Remy wants more than this? Surely The Frenchman would jump at an opportunity to sign for a club like Arsenal.

This is all the more true given The Gunners’ current situation. Loic Remy will be well aware of the North London side’s currently shortage of strikers. I’m sure he’ll look at Olivier Giroud and think: I’m quicker than him, I’m technically better than him and I’m probably a better finisher than him.

Remy has done a good job for Newcastle United this season, scoring 13 goals in 24 games and I’m sure he’d do even better if he were playing in front of Arsenal’s talented midfield (I’m sure Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla would rather aim at Remy than Giroud, who has all the mobility of a punctured Segway.

Unfortunately, neither Harry nor The Metro suggest what Loic Remy’s release clause could be. If he’s available at a fair price, however, it’s clear that he’d be an excellent addition to Arsenal’s squad.

My hope is that Arsene Wenger brings in Remy and another world-class option this summer. That’s what it would take for The Gunners to fight their way back to the top of the Premier League. For now, however, we’ll just have to wait and see.

What’s your take? Would Loic Remy fit in well at The Emirates?

Remy is not the right option. He’s a good player but he is not a significant upgrade over Giroud, plus he has been injured for a good part of the season. Arsenal do not need another brittle attacking player. I do not think Remy would want to join Arsenal as a squad player.

Arsenal need an established star striker, a young up and comer with star potential, and a fourth forward from their youth ranks to add squad depth. Mario Mandzukic would be my first choice, with Alvaro Morata cast in the role of up and coming star.

They should buy Josip Drmic and loan him out for a season as insurance against Giroud leaving and/or in the event that Morata does not come good. Sanogo should also be sent out on loan. He has some quality but looked overwhelmed in an Emirates shirt when he’s played this season.

In my humble opinion I am convinced there are far better options than Remy for Arsenal. Whether he will fit in at Arsenal is very possible, however, we need a World class striker and not necessarily a French striker. Some French players have a tendency to throw tantrums on the pitch instead of getting on with the task at hand.

Bit of a non story I’m afraid as he has already signed for Athletic Madrid.
