PedroOne of Manchester United’s greatest weaknesses this season has been their lack of threat down the wings. This is a club who is renowned for their flying wingers, but they’ve completely lacked cut and thrust this year.

Wherever you look, there seems to be mediocrity. Ashley Young started his Manchester United career well, but over the last couple of years, he’s been coasting. Nobody seems to know where to play Shinji Kagawa. Nani looks to be on his way out of Old Trafford. Ryan Giggs isn’t a sprightly young chap any more.

Antonio Valencia has been okay this season, but he’s also going through a pro-longed dip in form. The Red Devils need to find a spark in this area of the pitch and the best way to do this would be scour the transfer market.

According to The Metro, Manchester United are on ‘red alert’ after a Barcelona player’s agent hinted that his charge wants to leave the club. The player in question is Pedro, who has been at the Nou Camp since 2008.

His agent, Francois Gallardo said the following: “Pedro is very angry this season. The player is in a difficult situation and may be sold.”

This anger seems to have arisen after Gerardo Martino left Pedro out of the starting line-up during Barca’s Copa del Ray defeat to Real Madrid.

This strikes me as an odd decision. In a season where many of Barca’s mainstays have displayed inconsistent form, Pedro has been excellent. He’s made 49 appearances for Barcelona and has scored 18 times. That’s a big improvement on last season’s 10 goals in 45 appearances.

At 26-years-old, he really seems to be hitting his peak. If Barcelona don’t fully appreciate him, then maybe Manchester United should be given the opportunity to show him some love?

The Metro suggest that he could cost The Red Devils as much as £26m (did they just pluck that figure out of thin air?). With reports suggesting that whoever’s in charge will have plenty of money to spend this summer, that kind of fee should be within United’s financial reach.

Let’s just hope that The Red Devils are able to tempt Barcelona into selling.

What’s your take? Can Manchester United really compete for a player like Pedro?
