Julian DraxlerIt’s deadline day! This is what we live for, right?

I’m sure Arsenal fans will spend most of today biting their nails, rocking back and forth and praying to Lord Wenger that the club makes some signings before the window slams shut.

Whilst the Gunners are well placed in the Premier League and have short odds to lift the title with BitBet.com, it looks like they’re about to hit a rough patch, with games against top clubs like Bayern Munich, Manchester United, Liverpool and others all to come over the next month.

With injuries ravaging the squad, bringing in reinforcements would be smart. Indeed, it’s starting to look damn near essential.

The Mirror ran an article yesterday suggesting that Arsenal are attempting to wrap up two deals. The players in question? Schalke 04’s talented German youngster, Julian Draxler and Juventus’ forgotten striker, Mirko Vucinic.

Whilst Arsenal desperately need to sign a striker, the more exciting signing would be Julian Draxler, who has been earmarked as one of the most promising young players in European football.

The 20-year-old is comfortable on the ball, carries it with pace and has a directness that other Arsenal players lack. He reminds me a little of Alex Oxlaide-Chamberlain when it comes to playing style, but he’s a little further down his development path and looks more likely to blossom into a world class footballer.

There’s also the chance that Arsene Wenger will attempt to convert him into a striker (he currently plays as an attacking midfielder), as he did with Robin Van Persie when he signed him from Feyenoord.

The Professor is a great judge of talent, so if he feels that Draxler is capable of it, then who are we to second guess him?

But if they were to wrap up a deal for Mirko Vucinic, they would be signing a ready made striker. It may only end up being a loan deal, but that would suffice until the summer when Arsenal could start considering long-term options.

Vucinic may only have scored 26 goals in 89 games for Juve, but he’s got experience at every level, links up well with the midfield and would represent a good second choice option for the Gunners.

He’d certainly be a step up on Nicklas Bendtner.

Whether these two would secure Arsenal silverware this season is anybody’s guess. But it’s clear that they would markedly increase their chances.

What’s your take? Will Arsenal wrap up these two deals?
