Why this swap deal would work very nicely for Manchester United:

NaniPortuguese winger, Nani’s situation at Old Trafford is difficult to account for. The technically gifted Manchester United talent could once reasonably claim to being one of the Premier League’s best forwards.

Now, however, he’s gone way off the boil and negotiations over a new contract have completely broken down.

Nani, like Cristiano Ronaldo before him, could have gone on to be a genuine Old Trafford hero. Instead, injuries and poor form have put the dampeners on his career.

But he’s still young. There’s every chance that a move to a top club would relight the fire in his belly. If he joins another big club – one that could offer him regular first team football – he may well prove to the world exactly what he’s capable of.

After all, there seems to be no real future available to him at Manchester United.

With this in mind, I was intrigued to read that Nani could be used as a make-weight in Manchester United’s swap deal for Juventus’ classy midfielder, Claudio Marchisio. This strikes me as ideal move for every party involved.

For a start, Nani would earn a move to a top club who would offer him more opportunities to impress. Manchester United, on the other hand, would lose a player they don’t seem to trust and earn a world-class midfielder a world-class midfielder in return. That sounds like a good trade-off to me.

ESPN claim that Juventus enquired about Nani last year and are still willing to offload one of their midfielders if they get a forward in return.

It would surprise me if they looked to move Marchisio on, but Juve are strong in this area. The Italian ace is one of Serie A’s best talents, and one of the quickest, slickest passers of the ball that the game has to offer.

Marchisio fits neatly into Juve’s midfield, playing ahead of Pirlo, alongside, Arturo Vidal. It strikes me that he’d fit in nicely into Manchester United’s midfield, with Michael Carrick behind him and Shinji Kagawa ahead of him.

That would be a midfield trio that’s difficult to beat.

If Manchester United do look to secure this move, they’ll likely have to offer Juventus a large sum of money, along with Nani. But he’d be worth it. Marchisio could be just the man United need to keep the engine ticking over next season.

What’s your take? Should Manchester United look to pull off this audacious swap deal?
