Amongst Brendan Rodgers biggest mistakes during his time at Liverpool, was dipping back into his old club and signing Joe Allen.
The ex-Swans star had been one of the Premier League’s most promising up-and-coming talents, but pressure seems to be weighing him down. His formerly expert range of passing has been missing all season and there isn’t much else to his game.
A long-term injury has now curtailed any chance of him redeeming himself before next season. So I guess he’s just going to have to get used to the ‘flop’ tag.
Liverpool, on the other hand, need to start looking forward. Like Allen, they’ve had a less than impressive season and will need to work hard over the summer to make things right.
And the priority should be bringing in some offensive options who can help sharpen the Reds blunt attack.
Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho added a bit of flair to Liverpool’s forward line, but the initial buzz now seems to have dissipated.
This brings me to Liverpool’s recent link to Shakhtar Donetsk star, Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Spell check may not like him, but Liverpool fans just might.
The Armenian (the home of football!) attack midfield has had his reputation bolstered by a fantastic couple of years. He was Shakhtar’s player of the year last season and he’s been unstoppable in front of goal this season.
The pacey midfielder has scored 24-goals in the Ukranian Premier League this season. His cool, calm, controlled nature in front of goal has begun to attract the attention of clubs throughout Europe. Liverpool would be foolish to turn their nose up at this one.
One thing Liverpool lack is a source of regular goals in the centre of the park. Mkhitaryan can offer this and much more. The marauding midfielder, takes up smart positions, pulls defenders out of position and creates space for other players.
He may well be the missing link in Liverpool’s bedraggled midfield. One thing’s for sure: he’d be a step up on Joe Allen. He’d also come cheaper: TalkSPORT claim that he’d cost just £12m. Now that sounds like a deal worth striking to me.
What’s your take? Should Liverpool sign Henrikh Mkhitaryan, or do they need a bigger name (or at least a name that’s easy to spell)?

Henrikh is good but do he ‘ve shot power/good at air we all know what the likes of stoke, westbrom and chelsea did to us on air-balls.
No problem…seems ok to me, as long as Liv get rid of Downing, Allen, Carragher, Assaidi, Skrtel, Lucas. BR also needs to go and bring in Carlo Ancelotti, Eriksen, Victor Wanyama, etc.
Did you say BR needs to bring Carlo Ancelotti?
Liverpool should not rush to buy any players this time around because of gambling, caus every players they used their strenght to serve their clubs, so will should open eyes on quality one. Ynwa
