Mohamed Diame has been at Wigan since August 2009, following a €3.8m move from La Liga club Rayo Vallecano. He’s impressed for a Latics side that has often struggled to survive in the Premier League. His agent has since noted that Diame always viewed his time at Wigan as ‘a stepping stone to move to a bigger club’. Well, his Wigan contract’s up and his future is up for grabs. Will a bigger club come in for the energetic midfielder or will he be left out in the cold?

Speaking about his future, Willie McKay, Diame’s agent has said: “Momo is one of the best Bosmans around this summer and there are a lot of clubs at home and abroad keen on him, but Momo would like to stay in the Premier League and play for an ambitious club.

‘I have met with several Premier League clubs and we are considering all offers, but we have yet to make a decision on where Momo will be going.”

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Aston Villa have all registered their interest in the Sengalese International who would be available on a free. They’ve also reported that Manchester United were interested in acquiring his signature, but backed out after learning of the player’s troublesome heart condition. According to reports, Wigan keep a defibrillator at the side of the pitch in case things go pear shaped.

So Manchester United have gracefully bowed out of the proceedings, but according to Sky Sports, Liverpool are very much in the race for his signature. According to their story, Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the 24-year-old midfielder.

Is this a player that can improve Liverpool? I’m not so sure. There’s no point making a signing because a players available on a free. A new signing needs to improve the squad in some way. Is he really any better than Maxi Rodriguez who seems to be on his way out at Anfield? My feeling is no – he’s strong , he’s robust and he can move the ball around, but there have been no clear signs that he’s ready for a move to a top four club (or even a side with pretensions of finishing in the top four like Liverpool).

With Liverpool looking to make major improvements on last season, surely the time’s right for them to make some big signings. I don’t necessarily mean that they need to break the bank. Just make sensible signings and bring in players who can help the Reds climb back up the Premier League table.

I don’t think he’s the right player for the job – especially with the concerns over his health. I can’t help but hope that Rodgers looks elsewhere.

next to go should be; cole, aquilani, wilson, pacheco, brad jones gk, eccleston, adam,

This guy wouldn’t get any league game time, he’d just be better backup than Spearing, should Lucas get injured.

I agree that all those players need to go, but I’d include Spearing and I’d also include Doni & Maxi (massive wages/been left to rot on the bench for a season/getting on a bit).

The saving on wages (esp. of Cole, Aqua, Maxi, Kuyt, Aurellio, Doni & Adam), plus any transfer fees would result in a massive transfer kitty!!

If the rumours of Rodgers having a small transfer budget is true then Diame wouldn’t be too bad considering he’s free and most likely play back to Lucas.

LFC turned down Frank Worthington years ago for heart problems! ?????

  • Jeremy says:

Why has be been compared to Maxi, when he’s a holding midfielder?!

Obviously, he’d be brought in as backup for Lucas, who prior to last season’s injury was an ever-present in the holding midfield role…

ie I don’t think this guy will be expected to play many minutes, but is better backup than Spearing for the holding role.

It beats paying for a player that might not even get a league game!

  • Unquestionably imagine that that you said. Your favorite justification seemed to be at the net the simplest factor to keep in mind of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed at the same time as other people think about concerns that they just do not understand about. You controlled to hit the nail upon the top as smartly as defined out the entire thing without having side effect , folks could take a signal. Will probably be again to get more. Thank you
