It’s easy to forget Denilson is still an Arsenal player at times. He went back to Brazil on loan and it all went silent but as the season nears it’s end and the transfer window opens again, suddenly Denilson is back on the agenda. Will he stay? Should he stay? Or is he just another deadwood player that needs to be shipped out. I wouldn’t go as far to say he is deadwood, but I think his time has come and gone. Younger, and frankly better players, are emerging from Arsenal’s youth set up. Something Denilson doe’s not have the ability to compete with.
That said, this is a player who has amassed over 150 apperances for Arsenal since he first joined in 2006. The Brazilian has had his fair share of oppurtunities at Arsenal but at times he has been poor, very poor. Of course he has put in some good performances but the club strives for more success and Denilson is not the sort of player that can bring it. Selling him won’t generate a vast amount to splash around on new signings but the money could be used better elsewhere. Wages are also high on the agenda at Arsenal now, after their strict wage rules were scrapped following Tomas Rosicky’s 2 year contract extension and the high wages being offered to Van Persie.
It’s fairly simple in my eyes, sell on those that won’t be used and put the money down to better uses. Simple enough. Fans are calling out for new signings to be bought in, but I think the majority of transfer activity around the Emirates this summer will be exporting rather than importing. Denilson is just one player, arguably amongst many, that should leave Arsenal this summer. He simply is not good enough, I can’t see him fighting his way back into the team. There’s too many players in his way now. Wilshere, Ramsey, Rosicky, Song, Arteta, Benayoun. Denilson is not better than any of these, in fact he would probably struggle getting a run out in the Carling Cup.
This may all seem harsh but I’m certain there are many fan out there that will agree with what I’m saying. We want success, we want world class players, we want household names, we want trophies. We don’t want bit part players. Denilson needs to go, and I think he will. I’m expecting his loan in Brazil to be made permanent in the summer and wish him the best of luck. Unfortunately, North London is simply not where he should be.
