Gooner’s will have already heard about young Serge Gnabry but other football supporters may not understand the hype that surrounds him and may know very little on a player that is hailed as one of world football’s brightest young players. At only 16 years of age the powerful midfielder is destined for a bright future. He has pace, he believes he could give Theo Walcott a run for his money, and he has an eye for goal which all adds up to making him a very threatening asset.

The young German player joined Arsenal last summer from VFB Stuttgart’s youth section and has already turnt heads after only one year at the club. He scored early on in his Arsenal career for Steve Bould’s U-18’s in pre-season and has since made a huge impact at the club, already progressing to reserve level. Videos floating around on the internet show him tormenting Chelsea and scoring against West Brom, matches that propelled his reputation and got people talking.

He has the right aims, turning down an offer from Manchester City to join the Gunners shows his focus is about what is best for his development and not for the benefit of his wallet. It’s true that his childhood club is Barcelona, which might frighten a few Gooner’s given events in the past year but I’m sure if he does move on it will not be before he has made an impact for us. Serge’s main aim is to follow in the footsteps of fellow national Mario Goetze and reach the first team for his country before the age of 20.

His club and his country are both well known for their development of young players, presenting valuable experience to those that would benefit from it. Arsenal have been doing it for years, although not all stay and achieve great heights at the club those that move on state Arsenal to be extremely influential in their progress. Germany have shown in recent years that the younger generation can offer something earlier than others would expect them too, something that I wish the England national set up would follow.

Can Serge Gnabry save Arsenal money in the transfer market? I believe so. There is no need to spend millions on players when some bright young players are itching to get their chance. Oxlade-Chamberlain has become a fan favourite with his rise to stardom, much like Wilshere, Fabregas and others have done in the past. I’m not suggesting we don’t spend money and bring in players in the Summer, we do need to. However, Gnabry is just one example to show that we do still have quality players. Quality players that still have not been given their chance. It’s probably too soon to thust Gnabry in the limelight, but when he gets his call he will be ready.

Remember this one thing. For every player that is signed, someone else is pushed further away from the first team. Arsenal cannot afford to let that happen to Serge Gnabry, or Europe’s big fish might start snapping at his heels.

    fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

  • Judith Le'Strange says:

He’ll be like all the youngsters that arrive at Arsenal as prodigy’s, neve to be seen in the first team and are sent out on loan never to return. So if this youngster is so good why not give him a trial in the first team instead of Abu Diaby who is constantly injured.

    • I’m sure you would have thought same way about Van persie when he was always out injured . Come on gooner keep your faith alife, Daiby will one day make it big at Arsenal and then you will be proud to have him in team.

    • Jack says:

Because he has only been here since the summer and is still learning how to fit into the arsenal system. Considering he’s already made the step up to the reserves, it looks like he’s already ahead of schedule.

      • ches says:

Wht position does he play???? Arsenal surely dnt need another midfielder…they could do with a world class striker though…

    • Lee says:

Totally agree! Give him a trial for a little bit in a game. Not to thrust him in but to give him a try, show hes got a chance.

    • Mike says:

What? Do you mean like Anelka or Fabregas (to name but two) or in the current team, Walcott, Ramsey Szcensy. Dick head.

    • Smudger says:

So you think a 16 year old kid, with absolutely zero experience of top flight football, should be put on in a game ahead of a France international with 15 caps?

Wenger’s philosophy has always been the same – youth team, reserves, Carling Cup, (loan) then first team. Gnabry is still in the very early stages, leave him to develop and grow.

I don’t think you’re going to have a career as a football manager.

    • Legolas says:

🙂 mate r u sure u r a gooner ? look what wenger made of all these youngsters i never doubt wenger with that great examples are : Scezeney ,walcott , ramsey, wilshere ,frimpong , miyaichi, gibbs , fabregas , clichy , ashley cole , do i count more ? 😀

  • dino says:

Those who get loaned and never return usually are the ones who never progressed to arsenal quality…but you have examples of young talents who progressed through youth then get loaned for that final stage of their development before they start competing for first team…e.g. wilshire, frimpong, and miyachi. I am sure if he is good enough then the loan stage will be skipped just like chamberlain…

    • TrueGooner says:

I wouldn’t say Ox skipped the loan stage as he already had experience playing in the Championship as well as against the likes of ManU in cup match, plus his talent showed so it would’ve been useless to loan him as he already been there

  • WBA18 says:

‘Never to be seen in the first team’ seems a little off. Plenty of the young players Wenger buys in get their chance quite quickly, mostly in the cup but sometimes in the league.

  • mohamedinho says:

coz diaby is classy player, u all wil soon find out.better then samir nasri.mark my words

  • Al says:

You mean – we do not have to spend money and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is a proof? I thought he was our most expensive transfer last summer..

  • Agree with dino. The other thing to consider is that sometimes there are too many talented players in one position and Wenger lets them go so they can develop at other clubs – Jermaine Pennant, Seb Larrson, Fabrice Muamba are just some who have made a decent career because they could play elsewhere and become better footballers. Wenger used to give us a taste of the young talent on the big stage by giving them a run out in the League cup and FA cup, but our (fan’s) obsession with winning a cup, any cup, has made him a bit more reticent this past two seasons.

  • Although Liverpool are proof that winning the Stale Beer Cup counts for nothing, really.

  • Oskar says:

We should still sign quality players so talents like Gnabry have players to look up to and learn from. I think RVP & Cesc benefitted immensely from being around Bergkamp, Henry, Vieira etc.

  • bonaroca says:

My contention is if you have a top youngster,at the age of 16, then my suggestion would be to play him in the top jumior team with regular appearances in the reserve team and obviously then it would be most appropriate from time to time to have at least 35 minutes in the first team when play at home.

But apart from that we still need a central defender and goal scoring player to give more space to RVP for periodical rest when playing home

  • Perry says:

Senderos, Denilson and Djourou were never sent on loan before playing in the first team but never progressed. In fact I don’t think Djourou is good enough to play for Arsenal for 50k a week. Its another waste of money for a French-speaking crap player.

    • 971 says:

Perry, not liking djourou is one thing but please base your judgement on performances only. Adding “French speaking” is pointless and fuels nationalism and more…

  • lance says:

Fabulousgunner. What are you smoking please can I hav e some

  • Gerry Lennon says:

In defence of Djourou, I think he has a confidence problem. He plays well when the team play well, and well worth his place on the bench. He still has time to get more self-belief. If the squad had been this strong earlier in the season, I am sure more of our youngsters would have had more gain time. But when points are at stake you need to be at least two goals up with 30 minutes to go to risk inexpereience? I am sure we will see more of Coquelin before the end of this season …. Now there is a player who could save the club some money?

  • Chav says:

@ Perry, since you don’t like French speakers, I would like to know how many English defenders could have shut down Messi & co. like Djourou and Koscielny did in that match against Barcelona when both were superb. Djourou’s unfortunate series of injuries meant that he hasn’t had a long enough run to gain consistency and that he’s probably wary of being too aggressive.
