(Newcastle vs. )

In Newcastle’s first league game after the sale of Andy Carroll, they were 4-0 down against Arsenal after 26 minutes. But if there was ever a game of two halves, this was it.  Arsenal were reduced to ten men after 50 minutes, and Newcastle got back into the game.  Two Joey Barton penalties and a Leon Best goal made the score 4-3, but time was running out.  Step forward Cheik Tiote.  A Newcastle freekick was headed clear and Tiote connected with a sensational 25 yard volley to give Newcastle a stunning equaliser.

( vs. )

It’s not often that a player will get a bollocking from his manager for scoring a goal.  But that’s exactly what happened to Sandro last season, after scoring his first goal for Spurs against Chelsea.  Collecting the ball about 30 yards from goal, he unleashed an unstoppable shot past Petr Cech, giving Spurs a 1-0 lead.  As he sprinted to the touchline to celebrate, an irate Harry Redknapp told him in no uncertain terms not to cross the halfway line again.  Sandro hasn’t scored since, so he’s clearly learned his lesson!

Claude Makélelé (Chelsea vs. Tottenham Hotspur)

Makélelé’s first goal for Chelsea had been a gift.  Chelsea were given a penalty against Charlton on the day they would be presented with the Premier League trophy, and Makélelé was allowed to take it.  The penalty was saved, but he scored the rebound.  But his second Chelsea goal was all down to him.  In a game against Spurs, the ball broke towards Makélelé on the edge of the penalty area.  He adjusted his body and hit it first time, his curling shot beating Paul Robinson to give Chelsea the lead.
